Motorcycling Law:
These are only the most basic common requirements,
there are others, please speak to the instructors for more
information. |

If you have a provisional motorcycle
licence, you MUST satisfactorily complete a Compulsory Basic
Training (CBT) course. You can then ride on the public road,
with L plates (in Wales either D plates, L plates or both
can be used), for up to two years. During this time you MUST
pass a motorcycle theory test and then a practical test to
obtain your full motorcycle licence.
If you have a full car licence you may ride motorcycles up
to 125cc and 11 kw power output, with L plates (and/or D plates
in Wales), on public roads, but you MUST first satisfactorily
complete a CBT course if you have not already done so.
- At 16 years old you can ride a moped
(up to 50 cc max speed 30 mph).
- At 17 years old you can ride a 125cc
(max power 11Kw), take a test and be restricted to 33BHP
for 2 years.
- At 21 years old you can go Direct Access
(DAS) which means you can take your test on a bike over
46.6 BHP and have no restrictions on your licence
|
As from Februaruy 2001 everybody
who takes a practical test MUST take a THEORY test first.
Also new car drivers MUST take a CBT to ride a moped. If you
took your full car licence before February 2001 you do not
need a CBT to ride a moped |
