Day - We Remember Them |
 |
The memory for those
who died, those who did not grow old as we do, those
we remember at the going down of the sun and in the
morning - dedicated to the memory of those
persons of Lyneham, who made the supreme sacrifice for
freedom on the field of battle during World War 1 |

Tragedy 2005 |
|
The Day that
changed Lyneham as a Community.
Sunday 30th January 2005, a peaceful winter's afternoon
as the Iraqi people were voting for the price of freedom
following the capture of tyrant Saddam Hussein, we heard
the news that would change the community and indeed
the world in many ways.
Reports across the internet and international news
feeds were being flashed of a Lyneham based Hercules
that had crashed and all the crew
on board were lost. This tragedy sent shockwaves
around the world as the aircraft and crew was one of
the Wiltshire airbase finest. A sense of numbness and
disbelief verberated around the country as this has
been recorded as the biggest single loss of life to
hit UK forces since military action in Iraq began. |
