The memory for those who died, those who did not grow old as we do, those we remember at the going down of the sun and in the morning - dedicated to the memory of those persons of Lyneham, who made the supreme sacrifice for freedom on the field of battle during World War 1

Rank: Private
Service: Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire Regiment). 5th Battalion
Service Number: 22891
Killed in Action - Died of wounds, British Expeditionary Force.
Memorial: Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery

 

1914-20 British War Medal - Authorised in 1919, this is awarded to eligible service personnel and civilians alike. Qualification for the award varied slightly according to service. The basic requirement for army personnel and civilians was they either entered a theatre of war, or rendered approved service overseas, between 5th August 1914 and 11th November 1918.

1914-19 Victory Medal - Authorised in 1919, this was awarded to all eligible personnel who served on the establishment of a unit in an operational theatre. The Victory Medal was never issued alone.
