December 2010: December 2010 was the coldest December for 120 years and the coldest individual calendar month since February 1986. Snow fell widely and heavily on several days, causing disruption to road, rail and air transport, but RAF Lyneham stayed open for military operations. Lyneham has 22 air frost during the month, and 26 days where the grass minimum temperature was below 0°C. The coldest recorded temperature was - 8.6°C on the 20th and a few days later the thaw set in and the warmest day was 6.8°C on the 29th. A record low of 13mm of rainfall for the month (18% of the norm) , of which 4.4mm fell on the 27th December.
