December comprised three contrasting episodes:
a cyclonic/southwesterly type held sway until the 10th
followed by a long anticyclonic period from the 11th-24th,
then a changeable southwesterly regime returned for the
last week. The early and later periods of the month, Lyneham
experienced quite warm and damp patterns, but during the
middle part
of the month, there was setlled but colder temperatures.
Christmas Day was very mild with thermometers topping 8°C
and a rather damp day, where we had the wettest day of
the month of 19mm of rainfall. If temperatures were alot
lower,
it would have brought significant falls of snow, so the
betting shops were quite pleased, no snow fell on the Christmas
period. The warmest day of the month was on the 4th at
13.2°C and dropping to a minimum temperature of -4.9°C
on the 20th |
