The period 1st-10th gave England and Wales
its warmest start to September since 1949. Maxima of 24-26°C
were reported widely; the high of 29.7°C at Northolt
(London) on the 4th was the highest for this month in the
UK since 1999, while the maximum of 27.4°C at Charterhall
(Berwickshire) was the highest in Scotland since 1991.

the skies were clear allowing us to experience 12.3 hours
of autumnal sunshine. The whole month was generally warm
and we had over 169 hours of sunshine which was 119% of
the norm.
Overall rainfall for the month was quite low (44mm total)
which was 66% of the expected precipitation for a September.
Having said that, when it did rain, we had a few downpours
to keep our reservoirs topped up, notably on the 28th where
8.4mm of rain fell. The highest rainfall in a twenty-four
hour period was on the 14th - 10mm of rain fell.
