A changeable southwesterly type affected
the county throughout the month. There was a marked cyclonic
bias which consequently made the first week very very wet.
Fourty-eight millimetres of rain fell in the first four
days of the month leading to localised minor flooding and
the rain made the soil extremely soaked. The total rainfall
for the month was 65.6mm (2.58in). The largest 24 hour
period of rain was 29.1mm (1.2in) on the 4th August. With
strong winds in the area too, many trees were disturbed
from their rooting's. On the 20th anemometers recorded
mean wind speeds of 33 knots. Sunshine figures for the
month, 181.9 hours total with the sunniest day being recorded
on the 8th with 13.2 hours. The maximum temperature for
the month was monitored on the 19th thermometers reaching
25.1°C. The coldest night was noticed on the 5.6°C
on the 29th. In summary it was a particularly wet and windy
beginning to the month and settled out during the middle
10 days then ending the month back to autumnal wet and
windy. |
