A rather cool, dry and bright month especially in the early and latter days, but the weather reversed to dull and wet in the mid month. Relatively high pressure maintained generally fine weather over much of England and Wales until the 11th and it was very warm from the 3rd to the 5th with highs of 23-27°C, peaking at 29.7°C on the 5th at Coningsby and Holbeach (both Lincs). The mean average for the month at Lyneham was 0.6C lower than the recent trends at 20.1°C. However the highest temperature for the month was 27.1°C recorded on the 5th. Sunshine totals for the month was higher than average at 226 hrs which was 126% of the norm. The maximum sunshine daily total of 13.6 hours was recorded on the 11th. The month was quite dry as only 45mm of rainfall was recorded to which 18.6mm of this total fell on the 15th August. This dry month did not beat the lowest recorded in 1995 where only 2mm of rain fell in the calendar month.
