August, the month that everybody associates with summer, sunshine and the holiday season. Lyneham experienced a fairly warm month and had 20 days without rainfall. The total rain for the month was 41mm which was 72% of an August average (mean 61.8mm). The mean average temperature for August has been recorded at 20.3°C and this month we experienced a slightly higher average temperatures of 21.4°C. Some would not believed it, but we did had 237 hours of sunshine for the month, which is over 30 hours more that the mean. The highest recorded daily sunshine total for the month was on the 8th. The record for the amount of sunshine was documented in 1989 where we experienced 15.5 hours of glorious sunshine. The highest temperature recorded at Lyneham was 34.9°C in 1990, compared to 26.8°C this month on the 30th. Seven years later the highest night minimum temperature recorded was 19.5°C.
