In this month Lyneham's highest temperature
recorded on the 14th where thermometers topped 28°C
and the lowest temperature was only 8.2°C recorded on
the 5th. Considering it supposed to be a summer month, there
was only 206 hours of sunshine which is 96% of the norm
for a July. There was only 3 days recorded with no sunshine
at all. The highest recorded total hours of sunshine for
July was in 1971 where the sun blazed for 288 hours. The
lowest sunshine total recorded for a July month was six
years earlier in 1965 with only 129 hours. This July was
quite a remarkably dry month, with a break of precipitation
for 18 days. When it did rain, it rained and rained quite
heavily. Two notable days of precipitation were the 4th
where 16mm of rain fell and in the latter week, on the 24th,
12mm fell starting quite a wet end to the month. The total
rainfall for the month was 58mm, which is 131% of the norm
for a summer July. Twelve months ago Lyneham had a 28mm
fall in a twenty-four period on the 22nd. Despite the amount
of rain this year , the highest recorded July figures at
Lyneham was in 1950 where 125mm fell. Not much of a summer
then.
