Although a very dull and varied month,
the temperatures all throughout the month were warm and
at times quite chilly, we had periods
of heavy
rain and days with bright sushine. The highest temperature
for the month was on the 22nd where thermometers topped
22.2°C and five days later the maximum day temperature
was 5.0°C. Overall the average temperature for May
was 0.7°C above the 30 year average. Having said it
was a dull month earlier there was only three days where
no sun appeared through the thick clouds and on the 29th
we had 14.5 hours of sunshine. For the month as a whole,
we had 184 hours of recorded sunshine. The notable day
for British weather was on the 27th when the heavens opend
and in a short period we had 34mm of rain. During the month
of May we recorded 133mm of rainfall which is quite high
for a pre-summer month, this was 229% of the norm. The
monthly total was only 6mm of the all time May record which
was during 1967. |
