Following on from last month with exceptional
lengths of sunshine, April 2007 was noted as a very bright
month, nationally with the warmest April since at least
1659, the driest since 1984 and the sunniest since
1893. Lyneham was experiencing a very dry month where only
8mm of rain fell, considering we are supposed to have the
traditional April showers. This low rainfall figure was
17% of the normal, but it did not beat the previous all
time low of 1mm monthly fall in 2000. Six millimetres
of the monthly total rain fell within 24 hour period on
the 23rd
April
St George's
Day. Two hundred and thirty one hours of sunshine for the
month brought many of the flora out into bloom seasonally
early. The highest maximum temperature for the month was
22.3°C recorded on the 15th. Overall the monthly mean
average temperature was 4.8°C above the norm averaging
thermometers at 16.8°C. |
