England Regain the
Ashes
England only used 12 players all summer and it was this tight
bond within the squad which helped them overcome the might
of the Aussie team. Seven weeks of intense cricket had boiled
down to the final day of the final Test. When umpires Billy
Bowden and Rudi Koetzen took the bails off the stumps at The
Oval to confirm England's first Ashes win since 1987, the
famous old ground erupted. |

Rooney Jibes at Top Referee

Fuel Protest on M4
Fuel protesters drive along the M4 motorway in South Wales
to demonstrate against high petrol and diesel prices, Sepember
16, 2005. A convoy of around 100 vehicles took part in the
protest which came on the day that three retailers announced
a cut in pump prices. |

Crippled JetBlue Aircraft Makes
Emergency Landing
The disabled nose gear of a JetBlue Airbus 320 begins to smoke
and burn as the plane makes an emergency landing at Los Angeles
Airport after the front landing gear failed shortly after
take off. The pilot landed by balancing on the back wheels,
then eased onto the front tires, which shot flames along the
runway before tearing off. All 146 people on board made a
dramatic but safe emergency landing amid a hail of sparks
and smoke after its nose wheels jammed wildly out of alignment.
