Greek Aircraft Security Alert
A Greek Olympic Airways plane sits at Stanstead Airport in Essex, after being diverted from its route to New York following a security alert on September 26th, 2004. The plane was escorted to the airport by Royal Air Force Tornado aircraft.


Hurricane after Hurricane Bashes USA Coast
As Tropical Storm Frances (far left) passes over the Florida peninsula in the United States, another category 4 hurricane, Ivan, (lower right) is waiting, and moving, in the wings on September 5th 2004. Frances, downgraded to a tropical storm, moved into the Gulf of Mexico late today, leaving chaos in its wake after virtually shutting down the fourth largest state in the United States and cutting off electrical power to nearly six million people. Russian School Seige
Horrific and frightening scenes as Russian special forces troops rescue an unidentified child while soldiers stormed a building seized by heavily armed masked men and women in the town of Beslan in the province of North Ossetia near Chechnya on 3rd September 2004. At least 100 people were killed when Russian troops stormed a school Friday in a chaotic battle to free parents, teachers and children who had been held hostage for 53 hours by Chechen separatists.
