Death penalty for Hussein
Saddam Hussein has been sentenced to death by hanging by a court in Baghdad for crimes against humanity. Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein yells at the court as he receives his verdict during his trial held under tight security in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone. The United States insisted it played no role in an Iraqi court's decision to sentence former dictator Saddam Hussein to death, a judgement assailed by allied government's around the world. Shortly after the verdict, there were jubilant scenes in Sadr City, a predominantly Shia district of Baghdad, and in the holy city of Najaf. But in Saddam Hussein's home town of Tikrit there was fury, as supporters of the former president defied a curfew to parade with photographs of their hero.

Sir Alex Ferguson's 20 years at Manchester United
Some of football's biggest names have paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson, who marks 20 years as manager of Manchester United on 6 November 2006.

Ferguson's achievements during his time with the club have drawn acclaim from past and present players, managers and pundits alike.

Ferguson has got his hands on 17 major titles - incorporating two Doubles and a Treble - plus six Manager of the Year awards, five Charity Shields, an Intercontinental Cup and a Super Cup.

The pinnacle of achievement came in 1999 when, in the space of 10 days in May, Ferguson's United re-wrote the record books. After wrapping up another double with a comprehensive victory over Newcastle, it was on to Barcelona and a Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Trailing to Mario Basler's early goal and without the suspended Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, it seemed as if Ferguson was going to miss out on his Holy Grail with injury time fast approaching.

But Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer struck to secure victory and the Scot's famous response: "Football, bloody hell."

Kylie Returns
Triumphant Kylie Minogue struggled to hold back the tears as she returned to stage after battling breast cancer. The emotional pop princess, who emerged in a dazzling feather headdress, almost broke down when she dedicated Especially For You to her proud dad Ron. Kylie, 38, had to stop talking altogether when the cheers and screams of sobbing fans drowned her out. The concert was part of the Showgirl tour, 12th November 2006, —postponed in May 2005 when Kylie was diagnosed.

She apologised to fans who had the tickets 18 months ago, saying: "Generally, I'm ten minutes late not an hour, that is officially fashionably late —not a year-and-a-half."
