Bush does it again with Royal Slip Up
FAMOUS for his almost
expected gaffes, President Bush did not disappoint as he
welcomed
the Queen
to Washington
7th May
2007. The tongue-tied host stumbled over his words on the
south lawn of the White House, prompting embarrassed laughter
from
the 7,000-strong crowd.
Referring to a previous visit by
the Queen to mark the 200th anniversary of American independence,
he got his dates mixed
up, with a somewhat insulting consequence. He said: “You
helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 17... in
1976.” The 81-year-old Queen, no doubt braced for
some slip-up, initially remained straight-faced – but
Mr Bush was quick to see the funny side.
When you've just
made it sound like the Queen is more than 200 years old,
there may be a few ways of recovering from the gaffe.
But turning to her and giving her a sly wink is probably
not
included in any book of royal etiquette.

Prince Harry not going to Iraq
Prince Harry salutes his father Prince Charles
(not shown) as he leaves, following The Sovereign's Parade
at the
Royal Military Academy, where Harry received his military
commission at Sandhurst, England in this 12th April
2006. Some
think it's a sensible judgment that should have been made
long ago. Others say the decision not to deploy Prince
Harry to
Iraq amounts to favoritism, and wonder if there is any place
in the military for members of the royal family. |

First FA Cup Final in new Wembley
The first FA Cup final at the new Wembley (19th May 2007)
proved to be the proverbial damp squib but Chelsea will
care
not
one
iota,
after Didier Drogba's goal deep into extra-time proved
enough to exact revenge over a Manchester United side
that have
usurped them as Premiership champions seven days earlier.
After all the hype and a gap of seven years, the FA Cup
final returned to its spiritual home the new £757m
Wembley stadium, which was the 126th FA Cup Final. Match
