Crufts Dogs on Show
The 103rd annual Crufts has begun at the Birmingham NEC, 9th March 2006, with more than 24,000 dogs pandering, prancing and panting for the coveted best in show title. Officially recognised as the world's largest dog show by the Guinness Book of Records, Crufts. In the competition, each dog is judged according to their official breed standard dependent on their appearance, temperament and movement. Only purebreeds are allowed to be entered into Crufts. The Kennel Club now runs a similar competition called Scruffts for crossbreeds.

Swindon's Jamie Cox get Commonwealth Gold
Wiltshire has scooped it's first gold medal in years at the Commonwealth Games but it's fostered some mixed emotions. Jamie Cox, the 19-year-old boxer from Swindon, became the games' light welterweight boxing champion in the early hours of Saturday morning. But Cox, the youngest member of England's boxing team, took the title without having to throw a punch because his opponent Moses Kopo of Lesotho pulled out of the match due to illness.

The former St Joseph's student had already made the headlines in Wiltshire having been crowned as the ABA light-welterweight champion in 2005, a year after becoming the National Association of Boy's Clubs champion.

What a Sight!
What on earth are these hounds doing? They seem to be totality amazed at a spectacular sight in the clear skies over Turkey on the 29th March 2006. The event was last seen in the south west of England on the 11th August 1999 and the pooches didn't want to miss this one. Roll your mouse over the image on the left to see what al the fuss was about.
