Malibu Storm Bolders In
A boulder some 25 feet high blocks both lanes of the Topanga Caynon Road, Monday, 10th January 2005, as electrical contractors fix broken power and communication lines in Malibu, Califironia. No injures where reported, but the road remains closed. The storm system was blamed for at least nine deaths during the weekend in Southern California, including a man killed when his vehicle plunged into the surf off Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, and a homeless man killed when the hillside where his tent was pitched gave way.

First Images on Titan Saturn's Moon
Congratulations to the European Space Agency on the successful touchdown of its Huygens probe on Saturn's moon Titan. The probe entered Titan's upper atmosphere on January 14th 2005. During its two and one-half hour descent to the surface of the moon, it sampled the chemical composition of the atmosphere.

This is the coloured view, following processing to add reflection spectra data, gives a better indication of the actual colour of the surface. Initially thought to be rocks or ice blocks, they are more pebble-sized. The two rock-like objects just below the middle of the image are about 15 centimetres (left) and 4 centimetres (centre) across respectively, at a distance of about 85 centimetres from Huygens. The surface is darker than originally expected, consisting of a mixture of water and hydrocarbon ice. There is also evidence of erosion at the base of these objects, indicating possible fluvial activity

The Shape of Future Travel
The 555-seat super jumbo Airbus A380 is revealed at a ceremony in Toulouse, France 18th January 2005. Airbus threw a spectacular party for the world's largest airliner, the A380 - overweight, overbudget and yet to fly, but hailed by its makers as a major European feat that will reshape aviation.

New York Snow Storms
A man makes his way through the blowing snow near Central Park in New York City. Freezing temperatures compounded blizzard-like conditions in parts of the northeastern United States early 23rd January as the first major snowstorm of the year clobbered the region. It was alot colder there, than our slight overnight snow flurry.
