'Dead' canoeist charged with two offences
The canoeist who seemingly came "back from the dead" having disappeared at sea in 2002 has been charged by police on two counts. Cleveland Police have charged the 57-year-old with making an untrue statement to procure a passport and obtaining a money transfer by deception in relation to a life insurance policy. The news came amid claims from Anne Darwin that her husband faked his own death to avoid the couple's debts. Mrs Darwin, 55, claimed in a newspaper that he planned his disappearing act at the beginning of 2002 to escape tens of thousands of pounds worth of debt from a failing property portfolio.

Hatton is floored after thumping right from Mayweather
A Glittering array of Hollywood and sporting stars gathered at ringside to watch the fight of the decade. 9th December 2007. Hatton, wearing a glittering sky blue hooded dressing gown sporting the Manchester City club badge, received a tremendous reception as he made his way to the ring while Mayweather, smiling and looking relaxed, strolled into the arena to the strains of Bruce Springstein's Born in the USA. Both boxers undefeafed, one had to lose. Hatton pushed forward from the opening bell and the fans roared out Rule Britannia. Sadly Ricky Hatton was knocked down in the 10th round. Hatton looked heartbroken but his girlfriend Jennifer Dooley, at ringside, was inconsolable.

Led Zeppelin rock again
Led Zeppelin returned to the stage with their first full set in 19 years — and younger members of the crowd had heard nothing like it. Original members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones were joined by dead drummer John Bonham’s son, Jason, 41. The trio — with a combined age of 183 — burst on stage and opened with Good Times Bad Times, the first track of their debut album. After more than an hour the bulk of the fans got what they seemed to want most — a rendition of Stairway To Heaven. The adulation of 20,000 almost-equally tired fans ringing in their ears, they trooped away into the darkness 9th December 2007.

Spice Girl's gold return
It was the comeback tour to end all comeback tours and the Spice Girls didn’t disappoint. Dressed from head to toe in glit tering gold, the fab five kicked off the UK leg of their world tour in front of a sell-out crowd at London’s O2 arena on 15th December 2007. It was the first time they had performed together on British soil for nine years, but there were no homecoming nerves. I sang along to hit after hit and left with a big smile on my face – Girl Power forever!

Flights cancelled as fog halts Heathrow
The annual Christmas getaway had been thrown into chaos as persistent fog forced the cancellation of dozens of flights and made driving treacherous. Heathrow bourne the brunt of the weather problems with up to 60 mostly short haul and domestic flights scrapped, of which 34 were British Airways flights. Around 9,000 passengers were affected. The picture shows the skyscrapers at Canary Wharf in London peaking through the fog. The misery of air passengers added to the disappointment of 10,000 people planning trips abroad over Christmas who were victims of the collapse of travel company Travelscope.
