Black Watch Return Home
Two hundred soldiers from the Black Watch have arrived back in Britain. The troops touched down at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire this morning [11th December 2004] for emotional reunions with their families. The men, the first from among their battalion to return home, flew in overnight. Rollover image ~ the troops march out of the mist to their waiting families at Battlesbury Barracks in Warminster.


Biggest Smile in Lyneham
Santa's arrival in the village at the Scout and Guide Christmas Fair, Monday 13th December 2004. Much to Chantelle and Catherine's [pictured right] surprise visting Santa's Grotto she could not help but give the bearded wonder the biggest smile in Lyneham. The Scout and Guides Annual Fair was a great success. Chantelle and and Catherine are members of the 1st Lyneham Brownies.


Hot Dogs on a Chilly Night
1st Lyneham Air Scout Leader Andy Purdy in his festive attire, serves up another welcomed Hot Dog on a chilly and misty night at the Scout and Guide Annual Christmas Fair. (13th December 2004) While all the business was being done in the scout and guide hut, Andy's team were outside busy over the cooker preparing a warming meal for the many visitors to the fair. The fair was well attended and not many customers got past the Hot food without being tempted by Andy's team


Save our Regiments
The famous red hackles of the Black Watch head dress bristled amid a crowd of about 2,000 in Edinburgh, Sunday 19th December, as veterans marched alongside politicians and soldiers' families. The march was to protest against MoD plans to merge Scotland's historic battalions into a new 'Super Regiment'.


Giant Earthquake and Tsunami Wave
Survivors and rescuers battled the devastation left by sea surges that wiped out entire communities, killing more than 25,000 people. A massive tremor registered 9.0 on the Richter scale - the world's strongest in 40 years, causing a giant tsunami wave, hundreds of billions of gallons of sea water tossed cars around like toys and crashed on to beaches in eight countries and left a trail of destruction around the Indian Ocean.
