Sir Elton John's middle name is Hercules, his "marriage" certificate reveals.
18th January 2011
Elton John was born "Reginald Kenneth Dwight" in Pinner, England,
the son of Squadron Leader Stanley Dwight, RAF, and his wife, Sheila Dwight.
Reginald was raised primarily by his mother and other female relatives, and
saw little of his father as a boy. Stanley and Sheila divorced in 1962, when
Reginald was 15.
The
pop legend delighted thousands of fans at the County Ground
Swindon, home of Swindon Town Football Club, in June 2005 by dedicating a love song to the people of
Swindon and revealed he used to watch as a boy
when, the son of a RAF trumpeter, lived at Lyneham.
"When
I was a little boy I used to live at Lyneham at the airbase,"
he said, after coming back on stage for a second encore at
the end of a two-hour performance. "I used to come and
watch Swindon play. It was absolutely fantastic. I never
thought I would get to play here. Elton's affection to Lyneham and its iconic Hercules aircraft is for all to see, his civil partnership certificate reveals his middle name to be Hercules.
The written confirmation of the singer's civil partnership to David Furnish, pictured left, also recorded his original name as Reginald Kenneth Dwight - Sir Elton changed it by deed poll in 1972. His occupation is recorded as musician on the certificate, while David is listed as a film maker.
The mothers of both men - Sheila Farebrother, a retired civil servant, and Gladys Furnish, a retired homemaker - are named as official witnesses.
