20th June 2009
The RAF Lyneham 10km race will take place on Saturday 26th September 2009. The race is open to all and will be held on a fast, flat course within the confines of RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire.

Flight Lieutenant “Seb” Coe, a pilot on 24 Squadron is organising the race.  He said: “I was based at RAF Lyneham as a Loadmaster on the Hercules before I was commissioned as a Pilot and returned to Lyneham earlier this year.  When I was here before, I arranged the RAF Lyneham 10km race for 2 years.  I saw the Station Commander when I returned as a pilot and he tasked me to resurrect the race!!  Of course, it is an honour, and I hope the event will prove to be the success that it was when it was last held in May 2003.”

The gates will open at 9am, with a race brief taking place at 10.30am and the race starting at 11.00am.  There will be prizes for the winners of each category: male runners, female runners, male veteran (over 40), female veteran (over 35), team of 3 runners and the 1st RAF Lyneham runner to cross the finish line.

Entry is strictly by application only, with the closing date for application to arrive at RAF Lyneham by Friday 18th September.  All entrants need to complete an official application form and pay the entry fee of £9 for affiliated runners and £10 for unaffiliated entrants.  Download your application form here

All proceeds will go to the RAF Benevolent Fund and cheques should be made payable to SFAS RAF Lyneham.  Completed application forms and entry fees should be forwarded to:

All applications should enclose a 9x6 SAE to allow for a race pack to be sent to you.

The Station Physical Education Officer, Flight Lieutenant Mark Colebourn said: “It promises to be a good event which offers the unique opportunity for RAF Lyneham to invite people from the local community to come and get involved in a race around the airfield.”
