It is with very deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must
confirm that Senior Aircraftman Lee David Gwyn Lawry, RAF,
has died following a road traffic accident on the Rhigos mountain
road in Treherbert, Rhondda, on the evening of 2nd October
2006.
Senior Aircraftman Lee Lawry, aged 21, served as a Mechanical
Transport Driver as part of the Aviation Fuels and Mechanical
Transport Flight at RAF Lyneham.
Born on 4th September 1985, Lee joined the Royal Air Force
on 12th May 2004 and on completion of his basic trade training
at the Defence School of Transport, he was posted to RAF Lyneham.
As part of the Aircraft Support team he regularly drove specialist
vehicles, refuelling aircraft and providing essential ground
support to the Hercules fleet. Enthusiastic and eager to learn,
he was looking forward to gaining more experience through
serving overseas in the Falklands in the New Year.
Lee was a sincere, kind and humorous individual who was always
willing to participate in any team event. Ever the enthusiast
for charity, he recently took part in a ‘Commando Challenge’
to raise money for a good cause.
He was always keen to try anything new, throwing himself
into team sports and fitness sessions with gusto. He had a
trusting nature, never afraid to ask questions and always
wanting to know where, when and what was happening next. Everyone
who knew him has fond memories of Lee, most of which will
involve him making them laugh.
He will be deeply missed by his friends and colleagues.
Lee leaves behind his wife, Gemma and an 8 month old baby
girl, Seren. In a statement, his family described him as a
"loving husband and father" who had moved from his
family home in Wales for his job in the air force.
"Lee was a loving husband and father, brought up in
the Treherbert area. He attended Ysgol Ynyswen and Ysgol Gyfun
Porth," said the statement.
"Lee will be sadly missed by his wife Gemma and daughter
Seren, his family in Redcar, north east England and his family
in the Rhondda. Both sets of parents will miss him dreadfully,
as will all his close relatives and friends in England and
Wales."
