RAF Lyneham personnel threw themselves, some literally, into Red Nose Day. It was the Operations Wing Charities Committee who got the 'bucket jangling' first with there patrolling of the main gate for all the arrivals at the Wiltshire Base.

Sgt Ade Pickup and his crew collected a staggering £217.70p and six blue noses (it was a bit cold apparently! and hopefully not from refusal to contribute)

The HIVE which is a social meeting centre on the airbase for station personnel to meet and seek information. The HIVE had a full day of activities; Crafts for kids, a Karaoke lunch, Big Hairball Kidz Disco and a Pram push. These activities raised a magnificent £337.75p.

The Junior Ranks Mess, the Wessex Restaurant, were busy selling boxes of cakes, auctioning a Red Nose Day cake, face painting and some cross-dressing, well it was Red Nose day and excuse were given for the attire. In addition to the money they had donated from the Catering Squadron Bingo and Bonus Ball they raised a fantastic £405.05p.

The Physical Education Flight, the sporty ones, not wishing to be left out of the frivolities, arranged a fancy dress big hair circuit training session. Personnel were asked to make a donation to Comic Relief to take part, there efforts raised some £38.55p

All in all the Station raised a staggering £969.05p with more expected. Well done to all those who took part, who organised and to those who kindly contributed. Picture right is a young RED NOSE enthusiast from the HIVE RAF Lyneham getting in the spirit of the national fundraising efforts. The Official Red Nose theme for this year, BIG HAIR DAY and BEYOND, and encouraged people to just do something, certainly this youngster felt he had played his part and donned his red hat and nose.
