With a name that exemplifies

has ever produced, Seb Coe, who won the 1500m gold
medal at the Olympic
Games in 1980 and 1984,
and set eight outdoor and three indoor world records, his

a charity race to raise funds for the Royal Air Force Benevolent

and many people watched as the competitors were running
on a fast, flat course within the confines of
RAF Lyneham.
The race was highly competitive with some very fast times
being posted and many personal bests. The winner, Tim Fisher
from Bradford-on-Avon posted the very impressive time of
33 minutes 16 secs, and the first female was Georgia Wood

Flight Lieutenant “Seb” Coe, a pilot on 24
Squadron who organised the race spoke before the event.
He said: “I
was based at RAF Lyneham as a Loadmaster on the Hercules
before I was commissioned as a Pilot and returned to Lyneham
earlier this year. When I was here before, I arranged
the RAF Lyneham 10km race for 2 years. I saw the
Station Commander when I returned as a pilot and he tasked
me to resurrect the race!! Of course, it is an honour,
and I hope the event will prove to be the success that
it was when it was last held in May 2003.”
Race Director, Flight Lieutenant Bryan “Seb” Coe
was please to see so many competitors enjoying themselves
again and moreso contributing to another successful race.
He would like to pass on his thanks to the Station Commander,
Group Captain Mike Neville for making the day possible
as well as MALM Steve Watts, FS Jim Glass, FS Mark Hamer,
Cpl Woosie Wolstenholme, Cpl Rich Birkett and the Air Cadets
of Swindon, Chippenham and Melksham who provided all the
support and made the event the success it was.
The biggest winner of the day was
the RAF Benevolent
Fund who will be receiving a cheque
for around £1800 from
monies raised from the race.
