RAF Lyneham Partying Pink for Breakthrough Breast Cancer
2nd February 2006

Royal Air Force Lyneham went 'Partying Pink' all in aid of Breakthough Breast Cancer and raised a staggering £500.

Walking into the Depth Support Wing Tea Bar last Thursday evening, for a sociable party pint, many were beginning to think that the cold winter air was sending the retina blood vessels into pink overdrive, and that was well before a drink was consumed. Maybe, you could be forgiven for thinking you had walked into Barbie Paradise, however, it was in fact a novel Pink Party held by airmen and airwomen at RAF Lyneham to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Everyone who attended wore an item of pink. Some of the more daring individuals went in full pink fancy dress.

The charity evening was organised in memory of a Flight Lieutenant who worked in Supply Wing at RAF Waddington who died of Breast Cancer at just 28 years old.

Partying in Pink, RAF Lyneham Depth Support Wing raised £500 for charity. Left SAC Bradley as Vicky Pollard, The Pink Ladies Flying Officer Proctor, Flying Officer Ingram. Background image of the Fancy Dressers in Pink.

In order to raise money, Depth Support Wing held a Pink Raffle, a Pink Quiz and auctioned a portrait sitting worth £250 to be taken by Flight Lieutenant Giles, which raised £150. Refreshments included pink food and the party goers drank Pink Polar Bears. All in good fun, the evening was a great success, and more importantly raised the general awareness for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity and lots of money, but there were no pink noses after the beers were flowing.

Fancy dress costumes included the Pink Ladies from Grease, pink rabbits and fairies. The winner of the competition was Senior Aircraftman Bradley, dressed up as Vicky Pollard, pictured on the left of the main picture above. He raised £40 in sponsorship to act like “Yeah But, No But” Vicky Pollard throughout the evening.

Flying Officer Olivia Proctor, the Officer in charge of Depth Support Wing Charities said: “ We all had a fantastic night. I am very proud of the committee for all their hard work organising this event. We have raised plenty of money for a good cause. In total, the Pink Party raised over £500."

Depth Support Wing provides deep support to the Hercules Fleet, working closely with industry to meet availability targets. The Wing comprises Hercules Maintenance Support Squadron, Logistic Squadron, Contract Monitoring Squadron and Command Control Communications Computers and Intelligence Support Squadron.
