Lyneham's
Theatre Boards Creak again
Royal Air Force Lyneham

30th January 2006
It's that time of year again for creaking stage boards and dusting out the sets
as Lyneham Theatre Club presents a panto fit for a King. Molly Muffet and the
folks of Periwinkle on sea live ordinary lives until the strange arrival of Jasper
Grasper and his travelling show. Things got weirder when they found a talking
spider in the woods with a tale of an evil witch and wrongdoing. There follows
an exciting sea voyage, swashbuckling and amazing adventures.
RAF Lyneham’s very own pantomime, Little Miss Muffet,
written by Paul Reakes, was staged in the Julianna Goss
Theatre. The show opened on 25 January 2006 and had the
audience in stitches throughout. Bright costumes, excellently
decorated sets and bundles of good humour, even for the
big kids, ensured audiences were thoroughly entertained
throughout. This is the second time the pantomime has been
opened to residents in the local community and it sold
out.
Lyneham Theatre Club is made up of actors both service
and civilian who all have a connection with the Air Force
and who have been giving up their free time since October
to rehearse for this years Pantomime. The Theatre Club
is famed for it’s attention to detail and high standards
and has won more awards than any other RAF Station for
its stage shows. Lyneham Theatre Club’s achievements
through 2006 earned the coveted RAF
Theatrical Association (RAFTA) Premier Award for the most successful company in
the RAFTA.
Squadron Leader Dom McEvoy, OC Personnel Management Squadron
attended the opening night and couldn’t stop laughing.
He said, “A panto in the great tradition: a mixture of music,
slapstick, variety, social comment and audience participation.
A great night out, and you’ll enjoy yourselves- Oh
yes you will!”
If you miss this years Pantomime, you have another chance
to see Lyneham Theatre Club’s excellent acting skills
in their One Act Plays staged in May 2007.
