| Two soldiers repatriated to Lyneham
5th April 2007
Just
as we rejoice at the return of 15 Royal Navy and Royal Marine
personnel
flown
to Heathrow
Terminal 4, so today we also grieve and mourn for the loss
of four soldiers in Basra
who
were killed
as a
result
of a terrorist act. Two women were among the four British soldiers
killed by a roadside bomb near Basra, southern Iraq. The deaths
throw the spotlight back onto the role of women in action
in the Middle East following the release of Leading Seaman
Faye Turney, who was the most high profile of the 15 British
personnel held in Iran.
A civilian translator was also killed in the bomb blast,
which targeted a patrol in a Warrior armoured vehicle. A fifth
soldier was also "very seriously injured" and
is being treated in the military hospital in Basra. The latest
incident brings the total number of UK troops killed in operations
in Iraq to 140.
Repatriation at RAF Lyneham
The bodies of two British soldiers
killed in Iraq have been flown back to RAF Lyneham today.
Rifleman
Aaron Lincoln, from the 2nd Battalion, The Rifles, was shot
while on patrol in Basra on Monday. The 18-year-old
was from Durham.
Kingsman Danny Wilson, 28, from Chindit Company, 2nd Battalion,
the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, was hit by small arms fire
in the same city on Sunday. The 28-year-old, from Workington
in Cumbria, leaves behind a wife and son.

His coffin, wrapped in the Union flag, was carried from the
gigantic C17 Globemaster air transporter by soldiers while
a lone bugler played The Last Post.
