COMRADES of the nine airmen and one soldier lost in January's
Hercules tragedy will payed an aerial tribute to them in a
special flypast. Aircrews from RAF Lyneham marked the loss
at the Royal International Air Tattoo 16th July 2005 at RAF
Fairford.
The four Hercules planes in their own formation team, known
as the 'Green Barrows', comprises of two of the airbase's
older K type Hercules from 47 and 70 squadrons and two of
the newer J types from 24 and 30 squadrons flew together in
a poignant memorial.

Flt Lt Jane Hawthornthwaite, spokeswoman for
RAF Lyneham, said: "We think this flypast will be a fitting
tribute to those who died in the Iraq Hercules crash and a
sign that they are all still very close to our hearts."
Eight of the ten men who died were based at RAF Lyneham.
It is not yet known what caused the crash as an RAF Board
of Inquiry is still investigating.
