The Station Act of Remembrance
Chaplain
We meet together in the presence of Almighty God to remember before
Him those who died on Sunday in the service of our Nation. Those
known to many here who served with loyalty, courage, professionalism
and devotion even at the cost of their lives in the cause of freedom,
justice and peace.
We meet also to pray that God will give comfort to those who mourn
- for the many families, friends & colleagues touched by this
sudden loss.
Finally let us pray that in honouring the memory of those who have
died we to may be found faithful in our service to God, our Queen
and Country and that He will hasten the day when his kingdom of
peace will extend throughout the world.
Opening Prayer
Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be
parted, either in death or life. Hear our prayers and thanksgiving
for all whom we remember today; fulfil in them the purpose of your
love and bring us all with them to your eternal kingdom, through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Bible Readings
I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels nor principalities
nor powers nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor
depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate
us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more
death, or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things
has passed away. Revelation 21:14
Jesus said, "As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you.
Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments you will remain in
my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain
in his love. I have told you this so that my own joy may be in you
and your joy be complete. This is my commandment: love one another,
as I have loved you. A man can have no greater love than to lay
down his life for his friends.
You are my friends, if you do what I command you. I shall not call
you servants any more, because a servant does not know his master's
business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything
I have learnt from my Father. You did not choose me, no, I chose
you; and I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that
will last; and then the Father will give you anything you ask in
my name.
What I command you is to love one another." John 15. 9-17
Hercules
The station commander spoke of a local lady, Mrs Sheila Webb who
had sent a poem to the station commander in tribute of the Hercules
tragedy. Aptly called "Hercules":
Hercules of iron wing
Of your glory let anthem sing
Faced with foreign desert lands
Where evil thrives and terror spans
Strong and mighty men of peace
Your legacy will never cease
Pride and sadness interlace
47 Squadron - Lyneham base.
Show your spirit at full mast
And tip your wing at each flypast
Then cast away all earthly things
To fly back home on golden wings.
