| As a roll of honour of the Hilton 22 crew
and passengers was being read, by Wing Commander Nigel Bradshaw,
Officer Commanding Forward Support Wing and Squadron Leader
Rob Ashurst, 47 Squadron, the many relatives, colleagues and
work mates who had gathered on a chilly January morning stood
in silence, reflecting on the past twelve months. "We
will always remember them." The plaque was engraved with
the names of all those who were on board 'Hilton 22'.
The main picture collage shows the Station Commander Group
Captain Paul Atherton and Padre Ruth Jackson at the planting
of the tree, to sign the act of remembrance for the ten servicemen
whose lives were lost, serving for their country. The background
image is of the newly built Station Prayer Room and Memorial
Garden kindly built with donations from Debut, Integral and
Cannon Horticulture, the maintenance contractors at Royal
Air Force Lyneham. The Memorial Garden and Prayer Room has
been erected to allow station personnel, families and friends
to pay tribute and remember the airmen and airwomen who have
been tragically killed while serving at Wiltshire's airbase
RAF Lyneham. A true reflection: the plaque that lines the
entrance route to the memorial garden says "We will remember
them"

OPENING PRAYER
We meet together in the presence of Almighty
God to remember before Him the crew and passengers of Aircraft
XV179, to give thanks for their lives and to commend them
to God. Let us pray that in honouring the memory of those
who died we may be found faithful in our service to God, our
Queen and our Country, and that He will hasten the day when
his Kingdom of Peace will extend throughout the world.
SENTENCE OF SCRIPTURE
I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor
angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present,
nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else
in all creation will be able to separate us from the love
of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Rom 8:38-39).
READING FROM SCRIPTURE
John 15:9-14. As the Father has loved
me, so I have loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey
my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed
my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you
this so thay my joy may be in you and that your joy may be
complete. My command is this; Love each other as I have loved
you. No one has greater love than the one who lays down his
life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I
command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant
does not know his master's business. Instead I have called
you friends, for evertything that I have learned from my Father
I have made known to you.
THE PLANTING OF THE TREE
The tree was planted by the Station Commander,
Group Captain Paul Atherton.
PRAYER AT THE PLANTING OF THE
TREE
Heavenly Father, as we plant this tree in
memory of our fallen colleagues and friends, we pray that
its flourishing and growth may be to us a sign and symbol
of the hope and confidence in the future that your provide
though your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

SILENCE
PRAYERS
Almighty and eternal God, from whose love
in Christ we cannot be parted, either in death or life, hear
our prayers and thanksgiving for all whom we remember today;
fulfil in them the purpose of your love and bring us all with.
them to your eternal Kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Almighty God who has promised that they who wait upon Thee
shall renew their strength, and mount up with wings as eagles,
we commend to Thy Fatherly protection all who serve in the
Royal Air Force; uplift and support them in their high endeavour,
that they may be a safeguard to our Queen and a sure defence
to our Country. Help us fulfil our several duties with honour,
quietness and integrity, and grant that we may prove to be
worthy successors of those who by their valour and sacrifice,
have nobly served their day and generation, through Jesus
Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Our Father who are in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom
come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us; And lead us not
into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the
Kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
THE BLESSING
Go forth into the world in peace; be of good
courage; hold fast that which is good; render to no one evil
for evil; strengthen the fainthearted; support the weak; help
the afflicted; honour all people; love and serve the Lord,
rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. And the blessing
of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
be with you all this day and evermore.
Amen.
