The Write Stuff!
RAF Lyneham
22nd
October 2009
An RAF Airman
has penned his second novel based on the fortunes of last
season’s
Premier League football in the North East. Entitled ‘Auf
Wiedersehen Lads’ it is a portrayal of the crucial
8 game run in through the eyes of a day-by-day diary.
Senior Aircraftsman Mal Robinson,30, from Sunderland, currently
based with 1 Air Mobility Wing at RAF Lyneham, pays tribute
to the ongoing pressures and plights faced by the nation’s
troops. There is also a mention of the tongue in cheek
escapade to Jersey, in which he tried to deceive his wife,
Angela, about watching his beloved Sunderland play an exhibition
game there, using the cover story of a RAF Chinook ride
over, when really using civilian airlines, eventually making
headline news in the national press and TV.
Recently released, the book is on sale at £10 and
available online from www.a-w-lads.co.uk and
Amazon as well as other leading bookstores.
A synopsis of ‘Auf Wiedersehen Lads’.
With the 2008/09-football season drawing to a conclusion,
all three top North East teams (Sunderland, Newcastle United
and Middlesbrough) found themselves ensconced in a fight
for survival from the trapdoor of relegation to the Championship.
For the first time ever in a written publication, three
fans from each one of the bitter rivals have imploded their
thoughts in the same journal. Featuring everything from
a season review to a day-by-day diary for the crucial eight
game run in, covering everything from interviews with players
to misguided train journeys, this collection of writings
gives the reader humour, heartbreak and passion so raw,
it will leave you wanting more!
Edited by Sunderland writer Malcolm Robinson – author
of ‘From Afghanistan to Temazepam’, he also
enlisted the talents of Barry Hindmarch – ardent
Newcastle fan and literary genius and football expert -
Robert Nichols – fanzine editor of Middlesbrough’s ‘Fly
Me To The Moon’, to combine together bringing a unique
stance on one of the most important seasons in years. Also
including the musings of Hull City scribe – Ben Sandall
and his thoughts on the last day drama, the book really
does include all the feeling and all the events for all
clubs embedded in the relegation dogfight.
In a tribute to the North East based sitcom – it
is inevitable that these authors will be saying ‘Auf
Wiedersehen Lads’ come the end of the season. Senior
Aircraftsman Robinson has also written articles for various
football and military magazines as well as editing a website
and hosting a radio show.
Hubby's Offside
The Sun
Dozy footie fan Mal Robinson tricked his wife with an elaborate
military operation to go to a match - only to end up making
a drunken confession. Airman Malcolm, 29, told her he had
a free flight on an RAF helicopter to watch Sunderland RESERVES
play in Jersey.
But he actually took a regular flight from Gatwick. Malcolm
of RAF Lyneham Wiltshire even went on a Chinook and had his
picture taken by the chopper to fool his missus Angela, 29.
Then she phoned him while was at Gatwick and he drunkenly
blabbed where he was.
Malcolm said; " There's been a frosty silence since." |
