Royal Air Force Lyneham

Thursday 30th March saw a landmark day for the RAF Lyneham
Youth Club when SAC Alex Venn of Engineering Wing was formally
presented with her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at St James’ Palace, London.
RAF Lyneham was represented by Wing Commander Nigel Bradshaw,
Officer commanding Forward Support Wing.
SAC Venn completed her Award through the camp Youth Club
and is the first Youth Club member to complete her Award.
Having
committed a considerable amount of her personal time to the
Youth Club as a committee member, SAC Venn completed the Service
Section of her Award, in addition to challenging and demanding
expeditions on Dartmoor, a Scuba-Diving Residential, horse-riding
for her physical recreation and studying for her European
Computer Driving Licence and computer skills for her skill
section. [Rollover Image] |

SAC Venn commented that she was delighted to
achieve her Gold Award and it had been a superb experience
– topped off finally with receiving her Award at a venue
such as St James’ Palace.
The RAF Lyneham Youth Club continues to go from strength
to strength with a new and active Gold group continuing on
with their Awards and working with younger participants at
different levels of The Award. SAC Venn has now completed
several training courses to pass on her knowledge and experience
of The Award to other participants and this is reflected in
a thriving and energetic Award group.
The support for The Award within RAF Lyneham is reflected
by the presence of Wing Commander Bradshaw at the presentation
afternoon. Wing Commander Bradshaw commented that “Alex’s
achievement was superb and that she was a credit both to her,
the youth club and to the camp.” He also added that
“the afternoon was a wonderful experience” |

Duke of Edinburgh’s
Award
www.theaward.org
Made a good choice, the Award is a brilliant way of meeting
people, having a laugh and achieving something really special.
One thing's for sure; if you do the Award you'll really feel
like you've achieved something. You'll also probably need
a few months to recover! Basically, how you go about doing
your Award is completely up to you.
