Collective are one of three groups put together
by a company called Innovations. These groups have been hand
picked to visit selected schools and offer innovative lesson
support. They are equipped to run assemblies, lessons and
workshops with the aim of increasing pupil awareness of the
dangers in society and show that there are more things to
life than drugs, sex and other issues that are affecting our
young people today. As well as being trained to take lessons,
Collective performs modern, upbeat songs in hip/hop, rap and
pop styles with positive lyrics and dance routines.
The girls, Nikki 28, Ryo 22, and Beth 19, auditioned a year
ago after going to a concert by The Band With No Name, a popular
Christain pop group. After the show they announced that anyone
interested in forming similar groups should apply to Innovations.
The girls applied separately and went through gruelling X-Factor
style stages before being picked to form Collective. They
get on really well together and say that the age gap between
them has not affected them at all.
We have been informed by Flight Lieutenant Kerry Shardlow
Media Officer at RAF Lyneham that the band's first single
will be produced very soon. She has said "Collective’s
first single is due out in February. It’s being kept
under wraps for the time being, but Lyneham Radio will be
first in line to play the single once it is released. The
girls will be coming back at the end of February to let us
know how they are getting on and what’s happened since
the release of the single."
RAF Lyneham's personnel and families are very privileged
to be the first station in the forces to have its own radio
station. Lyneham Radio started broadcasting 1st May 2004 and
has grown from strength to strength. The importance of the
local station is not measurable, particularly for families
to keep in contact with service issues, the families can also
pass love ones messages while they are serving overseas. The
morale factor for Lyneham based troops serving in remote locations,
in all four corners of the globe, to hear their families is
so reassuring.
What has made this all possible, the internet and radio streaming.
Radio Lyneham can be heard through the speakers of your computer
via the internet stream. We have placed a link at the bottom
so you can experience the airing of Lyneham's unique forces
radio station.

Lyneham Radio DJ, Corporal Sam Beasant,
who put the live chat show together said, “This
was a great experience for me as I have only been DJing
on the radio Station since October 2005. This is the
first interview Collective have made on radio. The girls
were very lively and seemed to enjoy themselves and
were keen to come back to Lyneham. It was good clean
humorous fun as well as putting out appositive message
to the local community.” For anybody who is out
there and is feeling the strain of peer pressure, Collective
are there to help. www.thecollective.co.uk
or they can be contacted on +44(0)1793 859619. Alternatively,
listeners can contact Lyneham Radio and any messages
will be passed onto the band. |
Sam’s show is called “Brunch with Bez”
and aims to continue searching for new bands and put them
on the airwaves. Therefore, if you are an up and coming band
and would like your music to be played, please contact Lyneham
Radio or you can contact Sam on bez@lynehamradio.com.
Stay tuned to Lyneham Radio 1449am.

"The Forces First Volunteer Radio Station" |
| www.lynehamradio.com |
Lyneham Radio is the first volunteer-led
radio station within the RAF, and possibly, the first
within all three Services. It provides an excellent
medium by which to communicate local news and announcements
to the Lyneham community, whilst offering excellent
music and some extremely funny and talented DJs. One
of the future aspirations of the radio station is to
stream Lyneham Radio onto the Internet. This will enable
Lyneham Radio to reach RAF Lyneham personnel serving
away from the Station, keeping them in touch with life
at home. |

As Lyneham Radio is a service
for the whole of the Lyneham community, the team is
always looking the input of listeners. Inputs can be
anything from advertising a local event to providing
breaking news on a 'hot topic'. Although the Lyneham
Radio studio will not always be manned, inputs can be
fed into the radio station by simply leaving a message
on 01249 897766. Listen to
