3rd November 2006
RAF
Lyneham Fundraisers have presented £2000 on the station
annual bonfire night festivities. The Citizen’s Advice
Bureau is one of 3 local charities selected as a beneficiary
this year by the Admin Wing Fundraising
Committee.
A giant cheque in the shape of a hot dog,
was presented by the proud team to the North Wilts Citizens
Advice Bureau on Friday 3rd November, as hundreds of the
fireworks
were being displayed in the clear moon lit autumn sky.
Mary
Spooner, Citizen’s Advice Bureau Office Manager at
Chippenham, who was delighted to receive it along with a
complementary warming glass of Gluhwein. The Admin Wing fundraisers have supported the Station Bonfire
Night for the past 3 years by providing the ever-popular
Imbiss BBQ, toffee apples and Gluhwein. This year, it was
a combined effort with the professionals from Catering Squadron,
who provided hot soup, cheeseburgers, pastries and Irish
Stew. The CAB have provided an excellent service to RAF Lyneham
personnel and families for many years and now hold regular
sessions in the HIVE at the HUB, the first Monday of each
month.
For Sqn Ldr Martin Young, one of the admin officers at the
Wiltshire airbase, it was his last Imbiss at Lyneham. He
said at the firework display “I
would like to thank everyone at Lyneham who has supported
our events,
in
particular,
I would wish to thank Catering Squadron staff who have always
gone out of their way to help us. Whether it be, by providing
tea urns for hot drinks or storing some of our chilled food,
they have been superb and we could not have raised the £4,000
this year without them."
The Fundraisers Team have also been
marvellous, giving up their free time to support many events
throughout the year and have been great fun to work with
(I have never heard so many ‘lame’ sausage jokes).
For those who may get Brattie withdrawal symptoms, fear not,
the Imbiss will continue at Lyneham under the supervision
of Sgt Andy Davis and Flt Lt David Harper”.
