There will be a new face patrolling the streets of Lyneham, the new Unit Beat Officer, PC ‘Jarra’ Brown. PC ‘Jarra’ Brown, 46 will be our new local ‘bobby’ and his role will be a mix of patrolling the RAF Lyneham and the families quarters within the local community to deal with domestic issues and tackle some of the anti social behaviour and criminal damage that occurs. He will liaise closely with the local community organisations and Wiltshire Police.

Although not a new initiative within the Air Force, the introduction of a Unit Beat Officer is a positive step for Lyneham. It has been a long process to get PC Brown put into place, through the hard work and determination of Wing Commander Faulkes, Officer Commanding Administrative Wing, Mandy Gray, Finance Officer and Flight Lieutenant Daz Pascoe, OC Police. However, PC Brown is now in post and will work from Police Flight on the station. He has full powers of a civilian policeman and will be able to deal with civilians visiting the unit and over those within the Lyneham community.

Lyneham’s RAF Police see this as a good move and look forward to working alongside PC Brown and hope to achieve a better quality of life for those living in the community. He will be able to deal with problems that before now have been beyond RAF Police jurisdiction.

Flight Lieutenant Daz Pascoe, OC Police Flight at RAF Lyneham said, “ We will be able to provide a more effective policing response to the needs of the community and hopefully improve the quality of life for those living in the Lyneham Community.”

Wg Cdr Julia Faulkes, OC Admin Wing said, “PC Brown will have full powers of a Police Officer but will concentrate on developing local contacts, crime prevention and liaison with schools and youth organisations. He is an experienced policeman and an ex-Serviceman, who understands the Service way of life and the difficulties that Service families face.

His high profile presence should improve the quality of life for those living around Lyneham by tackling issues such as anti-social behaviour, vandalism and theft. He will work closely with the RAF Police and I am delighted to welcome him to the team.”

On coming to work at RAF Lyneham, PC Jarra Brown said, “I have received a warm welcome and am certainly looking forward to this new relationship between RAF Lyneham and myself. I hope to provide a positive dimension to the community and deliver a service of community policing to everyone in Lyneham”

PC Jarra Brown in a senior fifteen year Constable with a wide range of experience gained in front line uniform policing and specialist experience in domestic violence, gained in both being employed with the Ministry of Defence Police and long term secondment with Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. PC Brown has a history of Military service having served for 13 years with the Royal Engineers. During his time, he served in Germany, UK, Falklands and Cyprus.
