Road Safety
talk for Primary School
12th November 2008
On
the morning of Wednesday, 12 November 2008, the children
of Lyneham Primary School sang an excellent rendition of ‘From
a Tiny Ant’ to
welcome RAF Lyneham Transport Sergeant, Mick Kilbride,
and PC ‘Jarra’ Brown who had visited the school
to speak about Road Safety as part of the Ministry of Defence
Road Safety Week.
PC Brown, a well known face in the community, started
by testing the children’s knowledge of the Green
Cross Code, before giving them some advice about the importance
of wearing a helmet when riding a bike, and a seatbelt
when in the car.
Sgt Mick Kilbride gave everyone a Road Safety Activity
Book and some reflective hedgehog stickers. He said: "It
is so important to educate children on the importance of
road safety from an early age.
"It is about more than ensuring
young drivers are sensible when they are behind the wheel,
children should learn about basic road safety and about
the realities of the potential dangers."
The Headteacher of Lyneham Primary School, Mrs Julie Carr,
welcomed the visit and said: "It helps when
we work as a community and a team to help to keep the children
safe."
"This visit proves that it doesn’t always
have to be teachers who do the teaching. There is a wealth
of experience and expertise on our doorstep, and in developing
community cohesion, we can only strengthen the message." |
