‘1000 KICKS TO CANCER’
To achieve a Black Belt in a martial art takes years for dedication and determination, but for 30 students of Leadership Martial Arts, coming from the Schools in Swindon and Lyneham they have been set a task to take them way beyond their usual dedication. Their Master Instructor, John Danby, explains:

‘Every six months we have a Black Belt Graduation, This is the culmination of months of training and a four week assessment period. I decided a couple of years ago that we should dedicate some of our time and effort to assisting others. Our only reward is the satisfaction that we gave something for nothing.

I recently found out that it costs over £10,000.00 a day to keep the Prospect Hospice open. It seemed only right that we should do our part to give something to those who need our help the most.

The goal for each of the Students taking part in the Black Belt Graduation is to raise £150 each in sponsorship, for which they must complete 1000 kicks. This is a major physical challenge at the best of times, but add in the fact that they will have just completed four hours of testing before hand! I’m sure you will agree that it takes dedication not to quit! This is the first time I have set such a tough physical task and it has been amazing to watch the students rise to the challenge.

Ranging in age from 9 to 48 years they have all pushed themselves to raise the money and prepare for the days events. I am proud of them all’

The Graduation will take place at Stratton Community Leisure Centre, Grange Drive, Swindon, on Sunday 20th May 2007 at approximately 1pm.

Sponsor the Kicks
Can you help?. If you would like to help Leadership Martial Arts reach their target, why not give them a call and tell them you will sponsor one of the team. 1000 kicks is a remarkable feat and I am sure the pain barrier they go through to reach this milestone will be that much more rewarding, knowing you have helped their aim. Please do get in touch with them.
