Annual Church Fete and Garden Party
3rd July 2004

The 4th Annual Church Fete and Garden Party was a great success, even though the weather was looking like putting a complete damper on the day. Since the beginning of July, the weather was awful, damp and windy making preparations for the Hocketts Close fete very difficult. It did not look good, not at all good. At 7 a.m. on the day the sky was overcast and it was raining steadily.

Who picked Saturday 3rd July to have a fete? A little prayer and the weather turned for the better by the opening time at 2pm. The weather cleared up with bright sunshine, blue sky filled with ample cumulonimbus rain-filled cloud.

However, the waiting crowd were not prepared to allow the British weather spoil their day.

Reverand Anthony Fletcher the designate Priest in Charge of the Parish of Lyneham with Bradenstoke, officially opened the fete, the sun was shining and the crowds were queuing to come in. It turned out to be a great day and was very well supported. A grand total of £1600 was raised which will be shared between Lyneham and Bradenstoke churhes.

The Church committee would like to express their thanks to the generosity of local traders and establishments in the area we were able to offer many prizes for our Grand Draw and other competitions. The Reverand Tony Fletcher, thanked the local community for the turn out and stated that this year was a very successfull fete and hoped next year was equally popular.

A special thank you to Bill and Ann Hancock for the use of their lovely gardens and for all their hard work and effort in bringing it all together. We look forward to another fun event next year. Many thanks again to everyone for a very enjoyable day.

If you enjoyed it this year put a note in your diary - the 5th Summer Fete next year is on the first Saturday in July 2005. - SEE YOU THERE!

The list of winners for the Grand Draw is available here and congratulations to Alice Chung who scooped first prize of £100. Maybe she will use this money to buy a lovely raincoat for the summer of 2004.
