Lyneham
Village Hall reduces its carbon footprint
Energy saving measures have been carried
out at Lyneham Village Hall with the help of a £3,800
grant from North Wiltshire District Council. Cavity wall
insulation and a new low energy lighting system have already
been installed under the Energy Efficiency Grant Scheme.
Hall secretary Sam Wright said: “The
hall certainly retains heat longer and lower settings are
being achieved as well as faster warm up times. The
hall’s biggest annual
bill is for heating oil so the trustees are confident that
this year consumption will be down and hence the oil will
last longer. This grant has been fantastic because
otherwise the hall would not have had the funds to do this
work.” The Energy Efficiency Grant Scheme was
set up by the council to reduce the carbon footprint of
village halls and community buildings across the county.
Residents Concerned over Damage to hedges and property
An increase in the number of children damaging residents
bordering hedges has raised concern among elderly residents
in Pound Close Lyneham. It has been highlighted that a
small circle of teenagers are continuing to damage
hedges and flower beds,
despite being asked not to do so. Often when the offenders
have ben asked to stop damaging the property by residents,
the children ignore the request and throw verbal abuse
back at the property owners. The matter has been reported
to Wiltshire Police on a few occasions and the local
Wootton Bassett Rural Police Neighbourhood Team are currently
investigating the matter. If you have seen the children
cause damage to property in the village, please do not
hesitate to contact the Police on 0845 4087000.
