BBC Wiltshire Sound has a keen interest covering the local
news articles in and around Wiltshire, but they have grown
particularly interested in the local concern about the future
of Royal Air Force Lyneham.
In November 2001, following the Ministry of Defence decision
to possibly base future transport operations at Royal Air
Force Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Dan Chisholm from the Breakfast
Show Swindon questioned the webmaster, Andy Humm this morning
about the aims of this new website. |

Because Wiltshire Sound, has a large broadcasting region, both
in the Swindon area and Wiltshire, the Breakfast Show hosts took
the opportunity to chat at length to the webmaster separately. Later
in the morning, Emma Cooper who hosts the 'Breakfast in Wiltshire
Show' echoed some of the questions and amplified her interest about
Lyneham's future.
The news about the future of Royal Air Force Lyneham, which of
course has been a major talking point in the media recently, has
caused considerable uncertainty about our village future and how
it will have a major economic impact if it closed. RAF Lyneham interfaces
not only within the village but has widespread inputs to our neighbouring
villages, towns like Wootton Bassett, Calne, Chippenham and Swindon.
The webmaster emphasised on both radio shows, that this site has
been built firstly for the people of Lyneham so the village can
be on the net and thus develop a better awareness for everyone else
that this active village has a considerable future, not only within
Wiltshire but the many communities it interfaces with globally.
The website is developing rapidly, having numerous links to illustrate
the way we involve ourselves within the community. More importantly,
if the closure of Lyneham did materialise a "Blackhole"
would be felt across the region and may never recover. MP James
Gray has been spearheading the 'Save RAF Lyneham' Petition and listeners
were asked to support the campaign. Listeners were also invited
to join in on the forum to air their concerns.
Please feel free to register you views about the RAF Lyneham's
future, join together and show who cares. The forum can be accessed
here, it's free to register. Thank you to BBC Wiltshire Sound,
Dan and Emma for your support.
