Weather update for Wiltshire
Monday,
9th February 2009
Updated 18.20
The latest information from the Met
Office advises that severe
weather is expected tonight (Monday 9th February 2009) and
tomorrow (Tuesday 10th February 2009).
Heavy rain is forecast for the county overnight and tomorrow
with North Wiltshire still at risk of heavy snow. The outbreaks
of rain will be persistent and combine this with melting
snow, may lead to localised flooding.
Those people living in flood risk areas are advised to take
precautionary action. We have been advised the A3102 at
Mile Elm is flooded and the liklehoood of the River Avon
at Sutton Benger breaching its banks is extremely high as
water levels are already much higher than normal.
Wiltshire County Council urges
drivers to take care when driving due to possible surface
water on the roads. Ploughs are being deployed to the north
of the county in preparation. Priorities are switching focus
from clearing snow to flood planning
Members of the public are encouraged to listen to their local
radio station and visit the Met Office website for further
updates. The Environment Agency website
will show regular information of any localised flood warnings.
