Jem's the
best of British
UKs most exciting new talent singer/songwriter Jem,
releases her debut single. Hip and highly succesful in America,
and sure to be equally big in the UK.
Move over Charlotte
Church and take a break Tom Jones, Welsh wonder Jem is
about to make her mark on the British music scene. The petite
29-year-old brunette - tipped as the next Dido - is on the
brink of super-stardom.
The singer-songwriter has already taken America by storm after
her debut album Finally Woken was released across the Atlantic
last year. While trying to get a record deal in London, Jem
ended up co-writing the song Nothing Fails for Madonna's American
Life album.
Stunning Jem started writing songs when she was 13, but took
a break to finish school and get a law degree. While she was
at university she spent a lot of time promoting club nights
and DJing.
The social life was taking priority as she went to class as
little as I could without being kicked out. The whole music
experience was really useful to her and it helped her to get
where she is now and the law as helped her pursuit when looking
at contracts from record companies.
Jem's big break came after she dropped a demo off at a Los
Angeles radio station and a Brit DJ started playing it on his
morning show. Her first UK single 'They' was released on the
14th March 2005. The singer's unique blend of hip-hop, electronica,
folk and 60s pop has won her an army of fans in America where
she has already sold 200,000 copies of the album. Jem has been
influenced by so many types of music, and likes any music that
touches people, like hip-hop, which makes people get up and
dance.
The rising star now lives in Los Angeles and says: "Everybody
hates LA, even the rest of America, because they think it's
shallow but I think it's fantastic. "It's sunny all the
time and really beautiful. The sunshine makes a change from
Wales!" A Jem is about to hit the pop world in the UK,
she has already received glowing accolades from world-wide
media :
- "This year's outstanding female
singing sensation" Go
Magazine
- "Jem is going to be absolutely
massive. Simple. Take Dido, apply a layer of sex-appeal,
a coating of mischief and a sheen of 'joi de vivre' and
you have Jem." The
Daily Star
- "A copy of Brit singer Jem's debut
album has landed on my desk - and it's brilliant." The
Sun
