RAF Lyneham worker Naeem Malik is raising charity cash
in memory of his tragic baby who died aged just two weeks.
Mr Malik, of Middleaze, Swindon, is braving the beautician
and
will be losing all his body hair in memory of his daughter
Jazmin. The 34-year-old is hoping to raise at least £1,000
for CHOX, the children's hospital in Oxford, and the Chernobyl
Children's Lifeline (CCLL).
"Our daughter Jazmin died two years ago in February," said
Mr Malik, who works at the Blunsdon Arms pub. She was
born with several heart problems and was taken to the John
Radcliffe hospital, which is the nearest neo-natal
heart specialist unit to Swindon.
She died two weeks
later, so I wanted to do something in her memory." When she was born doctors told Mr Malik, and his 28-year-old
wife Toni, that Jazmin had a number of heart problems. "Between them the doctors had nearly 140 years' experience,
and none of them had seen anything like it," said Mr
Malik.
"We believe she was here to teach us all something
and that is what kept us going."
The money raised from the body wax will be used to help
improve the hospital ward for both parents and children. "When we were there the facilities were good, but they
could be improved," he said.
"I'm also raising money for the CCLL to help give children
in Chernobyl a better chance at life. As part of the
scheme they spend time in different places and apparently
every two weeks spent out of Chernobyl
increases their life expectancy by a couple of years."
The money is already rolling in, and so far Mr Malik has
been sponsored to the sum of £600. "I also work at
RAF Lyneham and everyone has been really kind," he said. "But
I want to raise as much as possible for the pain I am going
to put myself through.
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm starting
to get nervous. But it will all be worth it if we hit
the target, or even better if we raise more." The body
waxing is taking place at the end of November.
