Standards are warning residents of Cold
callers
Please be aware of cold callers in the area offering to do
work to properties. We have been informed of an incident in
the Salisbury area where an elderly man was approached on
a Sunday morning and asked if any work was required.
They claimed the work carried a 15 year guarantee. After
initially agreeing to some roof work, the man became suspicious
and asked them to stop work which was done with no argument.
He is not expecting any further problems with them.
The workers were using a red van and said they were working
in Newbury. They also said they were a big gang who travel
to Cornwall each summer for work.
When you are approached in this manner you are entitled to
be given 7 days written cooling of rights and the work should
ideally not start until that time has expired. If you are
approached please do not hesitate to ring the Consumer Support
Service on 08451-201202 before you agree to anything.
Pre-Recorded Phone Calls:
It has come to our attention that some residents of Wiltshire
have received a pre-recorded message claiming the consumer
has won money. This has been reported at businesses as well
as private addresses. Although it is not clear what costs
are involved it would be advised not to continue with the
call if received.
