Pensioner is floored by Bogus
Utility Worker
An 81-year-old woman was knocked to the ground, then shut
in her kitchen, during a possible distraction burglary. Police said an untidy search was made of the pensioner's
Salisbury home, but it is not known if anything was taken.
The incident was one of three in Wiltshire on Friday 16th
February 2007, involving bogus utility workers claiming to
be checking electrics
or
water.
Police have warned other residents in the area to be on
their guard, in case the tricksters target other homes. Police
have advised residents to always check callers identity
and if you are not satisfied you should firstly refuse entry
and call the police. Genuine callers will invariably be very
helpful to provide means of identification and telephone
numbers
to verify the authenticity.
