from Wiltshire Fire Brigade - Bogus Fire Fighters Safety Calls
WILTSHIRE Fire Brigade is warning residents to be on their
guard after news that bogus fire fighters are operating in
Oxfordshire.
The fraudsters are calling on households claiming to be carrying
out fire risk assessments with the intention of gaining entry
into people's homes.
Steve Law, Wiltshire Fire Brigade's community safety manager,
said: "There have been no reports of this kind of activity
taking place in the county but I recommend that people are
on their guard, especially in the run up to Christmas.
I would like to reassure the public that our fire fighters
who are on community fire safety duty wear uniform and always
carry official identification cards. If someone claims to
be working for the fire brigade and is not in uniform or does
not have an ID card then they should not be let into the house
under any circumstances."
The brigade advises householders if they are unsure as to
the person's identity to leave them outside, lock the door
and call the brigade on (01380) 731130.
