Standards are warning elderly residents of
callers
Residents are warned that a group of people with Irish accents
have entered a sheltered housing complex, in Devizes after
buzzing at the intercom and being admitted without identity
checks being carried out.
They have then gained entry to a number of elderly people's
flats, where they searched for valuables, and ransacked the
rooms. Many of the residents were in their 90's.
Wiltshire Police and Trading Standards would like all residents
whether in sheltered accommodation or other dwellings to be
especially vigilant and not to open doors to strangers without
making careful checks.
Advice is to call the police if you are suspicious. Anyone
who is frightened or worried by a caller should call 999.
