Earlier this year a Formula One racing team tested their car
at RAF Lyneham with the inspiration to break a land speed
record. We reported on the
29th March 2006, on the trials and race against time to
see if the Honda Racing Team could break the record books.
We are glad to report that all the effort, patience, nerves
of steel and the low-speed tests at Lyneham, in preparation
for the real record-breaking run at the Bonneville Salt Flats
United States have paid off. The driver Alan
van der Merwe broke record after record and finally achieved
a fastest run of 400 km/h (250 mph), which is the the fastest
officially measured speed ever by a Formula One car using
the Salt Flats in Utah at 6.40am local time Thursday 20th
July 2006.
Congratulations from everyone back in Lyneham Wiltshire.
