Leisure can be defined as the opportunity to an individual
after completing the immediate necessities of life, when he
or she has the freedom to choose, and engage in, an experience
which is expected to be personally satisfying. Well I say!
Each individual decides his or her own leisure
needs, so leisure activities or needs vary according to personal
preferences. What one person may enjoy, another may loathe!
Leisure may be active or passive (reading) or a combination
of both.
They may take place in the home (for example
watching television, listening to music) or elsewhere (for
example, eating out, going to the pub). The list of things
that people do in their free time is almost endless. The majority
refer to leisure as sporting activities or clubs. Why not choose
from some of the excellent attractions that are available in our region, here you will be able to
spend a little time picking up past cultures and see some
of the wonderful sights in Wiltshire.
Leisure and Recreation in Wiltshire is a growing
industry where health and fitness is probably the most frequently
mentioned area. Jogging was the first of the major fitness
trends to catch on with the public. At its peak in the late
1970s, it was the most important area to help the sports
clothing companies too, designer labels were the in-thing.
Fun runs and London
Marathon's have increased, the runners desire for more
physical challenges nowadays.
In the 1980s squash also became a major fitness-motivated sport. Squash and Jogging was predominantly male orientated and aerobics classes arrived to satisfy women's desire for safe , preferably
social, indoor fitness activity. The frivolous elements of
aerobics and dance classes eventually has given way to more
serious fitness training for women: Step Reebok, Yoga, and
hi-tech gyms are on the cards for the most social aspects
of keeping fit. There are many private fitness
clubs in North Wiltshire too. |
